Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen in our first session?
Our initial meeting will be a non-chargeable 30 to 50 minute introductory session where we will discuss your counselling needs and goals, giving us the opportunity to decide if we would like to work together. This session also gives us the chance to discuss the therapeutic agreement or 'counselling contract'.
How long do sessions last?
Following our initial introductory meeting, counselling sessions will last for 50 minutes, known as the 'therapeutic hour'. We will meet regularly, at the same time every week.
How many sessions can I have?
Sessions are open ended, however my ethical duty is to ensure our time together is therapeutic, therefore we will have regular reviews to make sure we are working within your boundaries and towards your goals, and I may refer you elsewhere if I feel you would benefit from seeing a differently skilled professional.
How much do you charge?
My fee is £50 per hour, unless otherwise agreed. I offer a discount for student counsellors/ people on low income. I review my fees annually.
What does integrative mean?
The integrative counselling model maintains there is no 'one size fits all' approach to therapy. It draws on many different models and theories and integrates them together according to the needs of the client. The integrative counsellor is concerned with how these theories compliment and empower the mental, physical and emotional health of the client.
What does trauma counselling entail?
Truly trauma informed counselling gives the client the opportunity to process their trauma in a safe and non re-traumatising way. We will work somatically (with the body) to help reconnect and empower you, and use psychoeducation to help make sense of all the things your brain and body do to help protect you when trauma has occurred.
what is the BACP?
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK. It sets standards for therapeutic practice and provides information for therapists, clients of therapy, and the general public.
when and where can I come and see you?
I offer sessions Monday - Friday, within normal office hours. Unfortunately I am not currently able to offer evening or weekend sessions. My office is based just outside Swindon in Bowman House Business Centre, Whitehill Lane, Royal Wootton Bassett, SN4 7DB, just off Junction 16 of the M4.
